I grew up in Freeport, Maine which is most famous for the LLBean Flagship store. I went to Penn State University and ended up finishing my degree in Biology at the University of Southern Maine. I continued on and received my Masters in Forensic Science at the University of New Haven. This new career took me and my now husband, Justin, to the DC area with my job at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives crime laboratory. I worked as a Forensic Document Examiner and traveled the country going to conferences and training seminars.
After the birth of our son, Austin, we decided Maine was the place we wanted to be to raise our family. I began working as a mortgage broker and that fast became a whirlwind for us. We had one lake camp that we rented out in the summers which is now turned in to over 150 we rent for others using our sister company, On the Water in Maine. .
We now live in Rockport with our children, Austin and Ainsley. We run several businesses to include vacation rentals, boat rentals and now officially real estate. In what free time we have, we like to ski at Sugarloaf, relax with friends in the salt air or look for seaglass with the kids.
We specialize only in waterfront because whether you are here to visit for a week or stay for a lifetime, the Maine coast just feels like home.
Real Estate has been in my blood all my life. My Dad was one of only three real estate brokers in Camden when I was a kid. In fact, he taught most of the senior real estate brokers in the area how to be brokers back in the 70’s and early 80’s. His agency, “Coastal Country Properties” was all about waterfront real estate and I spent many days and years of my life going to showings with him.
My Dad taught me from a young age the right way to buy and sell properties – be honest and take care of your clients so they come back again. As a part-time lobsterman, my Dad was always giving away lobsters to his clients. That’s the real estate philosophy I grew up on. I’ve carried that forward with my advantage as a licensed captain. When you go on waterfront property showings with Tiffany and I, we can go in our boat.
I served in the US Coast Guard for 4 years before becoming a professional yacht captain in 1994. My 11-year career with MBNA America, a credit card bank, as their corporate yacht captain, taught me to ‘think of myself as a Customer’ and that ‘complacency is devastating’.
I bought my first piece of real estate on Crawford Pond in Union in 1997. Since then, I have purchased and owned 6 other pieces of waterfront real estate. That experience has made me an expert in waterfront home ownership in Maine. I have been the head of the camp road owners association as well as a lake quality monitor. I’ve built all my own docks and was even used as the primary reference in a DownEast Magazine article on lake home ownership back in 2007.
Along with my wife Tiffany, we started On the Water in Maine Vacation Rentals in 2006 (although we had already been offering vacation home rentals since 1997). Many area real estate brokers sought my assistance in guiding their clients to buying the right investment homes to offer for rent. I am excited to now offer that service directly to my own clients.
Tiffany and I live in Rockport with our children, Austin and Ainsley. We own an over 100 year-old cottage on the beach in Owls Head which we use ourselves half the summer, and rent the other half. We run several businesses to include vacation rentals, boat rentals and now officially real estate. In what free time we have, we like to ski at Sugarloaf, relax with friends in the salt air or look for seaglass with the kids.
As a member of the Rockport Fire Department, I am active as a volunteer and serve as the Training Officer. I am also on the Board of the Vacation Rental Professionals of Maine and active in national vacation rental matters with the Vacation Rental Managers Association. I have recently specialized in vacation home safety and travel nationally to share on the topic.
Tiffany and I specialize only in waterfront real estate because whether you are here to visit for a week or stay for a lifetime, Maine’s lakes, ponds, rivers, and the coast just feels like home.

I love the ocean. My first childhood memory is sitting on a warm sandy beach on my mother’s lap listening to crashing waves taking in the salty air. I share a coastal upbringing with Tiffany, Justin and Nikki, however I’m admittedly … “from away”.
I grew up at the Jersey Shore just outside of Asbury Park. I attended Seton Hall University where I obtained a Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Communications. I started my marketing career in Midtown Manhattan where a co-worker introduced me to the man I would marry – Michael Bumiller. In summer of ‘95 Michael invited me to his family’s long time Maine summer home on Vinalhaven. During that picture perfect August ocean side vacation I fell in love with Maine… and Michael. From that moment we would spend every possible vacation day on this island tossing around plans and dreams of living in Maine. We painfully assumed we would have to wait until our retirement.
September 11th shortened that long range plan. In 2003 we seized the day, sold our house in Connecticut and purchased a historic home in downtown Rockland just a few walkable blocks to the Vinalhaven Ferry. Michael started a property caretaking business and I stepped into the world of real estate.
As a real estate professional I quickly engaged myself in the midcoast community. I became an avid volunteer to several organizations and a trusted advisor to many buyers and sellers. In 2009 a local community bank, Bangor Savings Bank, recognized my business development and customer service reputation and offered me a position as the Branch Manager for their then new Rockland office. Serving my community with sound financial advice was an amazing and rewarding experience; however I longed to be more outdoors.
Joining the On the Water Real Estate team in 2015 is like coming home. I’ve known Tiffany Ford and Nikki Bland for nearly a decade, as clients and as friends. While Tiffany was a mortgage broker and I in real estate, we worked seamlessly to put many people into new homes. Nikki and I met when she was one of my buyer clients. During that experience she and her husband successfully purchased an investment property and a year later Nikki was a sales agent working in the same brokerage office where I was working.
On the Water Real Estate is truly a family business. We thrive on working smart, effectively and helping our clients meet their goals with the best possible service and advice. When we are not working, we bring our respective families together for fun times along the shore at our respective family cottages or on the ski slopes at Sugarloaf Maine. My personal interests included yoga, hiking, skiing, cooking for friends, public speaking and lively conversation over a hot cup of tea.
